Conditions Treated With Ozone
Ozone is not a replacement for other therapies. As with most things in life, the best results are obtained when an integrated approach to healing is embraced by the patient. Thus, often we will prescribe other modalities along side ozone to help to reach the best outcome. These can include such things as nutrition, stress management, hormone replacement, and nutriceutical support to mention just a few.
Coronary Artery Disease and Angina
To best treat this condition a combination of ozone and chelation referred to as CheZone. It used to be thought that coronary artery disease was simply due to blockage of the artery. We now know that this is a multi-factoral event involving the blockage, vasospasm (contraction) of the blood vessel, endothelial dysfunction, increased blood clotting, and inflammation. This is why stenting alone has often shown not to be an effective treatment. Ozone and chelation allow for improved endothelial function, reduced inflammation and improved blood flow.
Microvasular Disease
A common cause of this condition is diabetes mellitus which causes stiffening of the blood vessels through a process called glycation. This causes issues with blood flow. Decreased blood flow means that there is less oxygen being delivered to the tissues including the nerves of the hands and feet. Ozone has been found to help increase oxygenation to these ischemic tissues.
Macular Degeneration
There are no known good treatments for macular degeneration. However, in one long term study the physician found that in his clinic that progression of the disease slowed in all patients and that symptomatic improvement was noticed in roughly 80% of patients. While no clinician can ever promise how well a treatment will work, these results are quite impressive. The remarkable outcomes were attained with a combination of ozone and chelation utlilizing a treatment regimen of 20-30 treatments (one per week).
Chronic Infirmities of Aging
Aging causes a number of things to occur within the body:
- decreased oxygen utilization
- decreased ATP production (ATP is the energy molecule used for all processes in the body)
- decreased 2,3-DPG production (important in oxygen transport within the body)
- increaed oxidation within the body
- decreased metabolic activity (often manifesing as weight gain)
- decreased circulation (which may manifest as cold hands/feet or cramping)
Cancer - Oncology
Let us be clear, ozone does not directly kill cancer. However, it does improve immune function which appears to result in better outcomes when used in conjunction with other therapies. Another area where ozone is of great benefit is with the side effects of chemotherapy. Back in the 1930's, Warburg demonstrated that decreased oxygen utilization was one of the major contributors to cancer. The only other therapy able to improve oxygen utilization to the same degree as ozone is NAD+ IVs which are also available in our clinic. Ozone therapy is recommended twice a week before surgery, chemotherapy or radiaton therapy, and once a week during chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy and a 'cancer free' diagnosis, ozone therapy along with high dose vitamin C are recommended once a week for first year. During this time liquid biopsy testing is recommended on a yearly basis to montior to ensure there is no return or progression of the disease.
Chronic Infections
Chronic infections are becoming more prevalent in our society. Some of this is thought to be due to antibiotics resistance which is much more common in many bacteria. However, antibiotics do not kill microbes, they simply slow their growth so that the person's immune system can kill the organism. This has led to the understanding that in many cases of chronic infection, the issue is that the person's own immune system is not adequately dealing with the infection. It is well researched that ozonides exist in our immune cells (White Blood Cells - WBC's) and the cell uses these to destory the infecting agent. Ozonides are very well tolerated by healthy cells but have been found to effectively destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and cancer cells. Unfortuately, for many people with decreased oxygen utilization, these cells do not create the required levels of ozonides. This is where ozone therapy can help as once O3 enters the blood, it is very quickly converted to ozonides. A common infection which many struggle with is the Epstein-Barr virus from a previous encounter with mononucleosis. Treatment for chronic infections varies depending on whether the infection was topical (on the skin) or systemic (in the body), or was viral, bacterial, fungal, or parasitic.
Chronic Herpes I and II
Ozone as a therapy will not cure herpes as the virus remains inbedded in the patient's DNA of the cells in the infected areas. It will, however, help deal with viral load by improving immune function by increasing cytokines and ozonides to deal with viral replication. Ideally a patient should schedule an appointment as soon as tingling/stinging is starting to appear. Treatment is for 5-7 days every day for a first treatment regimen and over time is decreased as both duration and frequency of outbreaks decreases.
Fungal Infections of the Skin
These can be very hard to treat, and without treament can often spread to areas all over the body. However, with ozone and diet these infections often respond very well. As the ozone is given topically as a gas, it has an opportunity to kill the actual fungal cells. Along with dietary changes, food sources for the fungi are removed which further enhances treatement. Generally 5-10 treatments are recommended over a 2-4 week period.
Decubitus Ulcers
These can be treated utilizing two methods: bagging or cupping. With cupping the reduced pressure allows the ozone better access to the tissues as the area is opened by the decreased pressure. The number of treatments will vary depedning on the severity of the ulcer and treatements can actually be done twice a day. It is important to remember with this type of ulcer that the amount of time to heal can be quite long (from a cople of months to a year or more - depending on the depth and width of the ulcer.
Osteomyelitis
Osteomylelitis best responds to limb bagging, but occasionally injection of ozone around the site is necessary. One physician who has treated numerous cases over two decades of practice reports that he has had great success with ozone treating this condition, even when antibiotics were not effective. With this condition, treatment is recommended every 2-3 days until resolution of the illness.
Proctitis
This is best treated with rectal insufflation of ozone. If due to a bacterial infection, then higher doses are used. Since this is done rectally, the treatment can be done at home once the patient is educated on how to administer the treatment.
Joint Pain
Joint pain can be one of the most debiltating conditions as it limits one's ability to move. Often prolotherapy can be an effective management protocol. However, Prolozone therapy has shown to be a very effective treatment. prolozone therapy adds the healing power of ozone with prolotherapy to improve oxygen utilization in the area and decrease inflammation. Prolozone will be available at our clinic in 2020.
Autoimmune Disease
Autoimmune disease include such illnesses as ALS, Lupus, and MS, sclerdoma, rheumatoid arthritis. Ozone treatment focues on utilizing ozonated saline with the addition of chelation. However, it is important to do heavy metal testing before adding chelation. For all heavy metal testing a provoked 6-8 h urine test is ideal.
Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis
In severe cases IV ozonated saline is given daily along with rectal insufflation happening twice a day. In addition, glutathione added to the IV regimen is an important component. Once the condition is stable, treatments can be reduced to 1-2 times a week until the episode has resolved.
Allergies and Sensitivities
These include allergies as well as eczema, psoriasis, urticaria, and chronic dermatitis. The standard ozone treatment for these if ozonated saline. However, depending on the severity of the involvement of the skin - limb bagging and cupping with ozone can be added.
General Immune Stimulation
For those people who 'catch everything' or those who 'never get sick'. Ideally a person should be getting a good cold 1-2 times a year. If it is more, the immune system is recognizing the infection but is not creating memory to effectively deal with it when exposed again. For those who never get sick, their immune system has chosen to either not recognize the presence of the cold virus or is incapable of mounting a defence. These people are the ones who often never get sick except when holidays come around and the pressure is off. Generally ozonated saline is the recommended method in dealing with this condition and is done on a weekly basis for 15-20 treatments.
